EDITOR’S CHOICE

These are the top seven players in the Okmulgee Area hub selected by position as chosen by VYPE editors.

QB: Kurtis Wilson – 6-2, 175, Sr. – Okemah:  The Panthers quarterback has the arm strength to deliver pinpoint accuracy in short routes as well as deep throws. Wilson has totaled over 3700 yards passing in his career.

RB: C.J. Brown – 5-11, 180, Sr. – Beggs:  The OSU commit is the best athlete in the Three Rivers area. With 1529 yards rushing in 2021, Brown has totaled 3655 yards rushing and 59 touchdowns entering his senior year.

WR: Jeremiah Olden – 5-9, 150, Sr – Beggs: With speed and elusiveness, Olden averaged 13.6 yards per reception in 2020 forcing opponents to always know his whereabouts on the field.

OL: Chad Stanton – 6-6, 310, Jr. – Beggs: The “Mountain Man” in the Golden Demons offensive front combines size, agility and football IQ into a dominating performer.

LB: Tylor Maldonado – 6-0, 230, Sr. – Dewar: The leading tackler with 110 stops in the Dragon’s run to a state championship and undefeated season, Maldonado uses his quickness, strength and size to his advantage.

DL: Malik Bogard – 6-0, 230, Sr. – Beggs:  A headhunter when crashing from his defensive end spot, Bogard owns multiple D-I offers including SMU, Kansas and Iowa State.

DB: Thomas Brownfield – 6-3, 170, Sr. – Dewar: With quickness and an attacking style of play, Brownfield led the Dragons with seven interceptions through lockdown coverage in the secondary.

FAN’S CHOICE

Based on fan voting in the Okmulgee area hub, here are the top players at seven positions.

OFFENSE

QB: Joseph Robertson – 6-1, 175, Soph. – Okmulgee: The Bulldogs have a big time performer in the making who coach Brent Scott says has all the tools to be a D-I level quarterback.

RB: Matteo Terroquez – 5-7, 175, Sr. – Morris: With the versatility to run out of the backfield or at wide receiver, the Eagles senior is a perfect fit for his team’s fast and physical offensive attack.

WR: Phillip Rice – 6-2, 170, Sr. – Henryetta: The Knights wide receiver had 20 catches last season and will be a much needed talent to turn quick outs into big plays in the passing game.

OL: Charlie Mason – 6-3, 315, Sr. – Beggs: The strength of the Golden Demons lineman matches his size and game night IQ to dominate play up front in run and pass blocking. Watch out when he’s downfield.

LB: Erick Macklin – Morris: A weight room warrior in the offseason, Macklin gives the Eagles an enforcer at linebacker where he lead the tackle charts last year.

DL: Marshall Been – 5-11, 195, Sr. – Dewar: A total of 16 quarterback sacks amidst 26 tackles for loss just begins to define the aggressiveness of the Dragons’ defensive end who rarely comes off the field.

DB: Isaac Drake – 6-1, 175, Fresh. – Weleetka: With speed and the confidence for providing lockdown coverage, Drake will be relied upon for making defensive highlights as well as running the offense at quarterback.
