Stilwell’s September 10th game at Gentry, Arkansas will be the 1,000th game in school history. The Indians played their first ever game in 1921. 

The Indians travel to Prairie Grove, AR on September 17th. Prairie Grove finished the 2020 season with a record of 10-2 and has won six straight games at home. The teams first met in 1922 with Stilwell winning 46-0.

OFFENSE

Although the record might not reflect it, second-year coach Don Harrison senses a silver lining to the 2020 season. “We had a good but Covid-loaded season last year. With all the quarantining and injuries, we had to play a lot of young guys which allowed them to gain valuable experience,” said Harrison. A lot of the offense will need to be generated by tailback Adam Phillips (5-9, 175, Sr.) who had nearly 500 yards rushing last season and halfback Cody Philpot (5-9, 235, So.) who ran for nearly 400 yards and four touchdowns in 2020. “Cody played very well as a freshman for us last season and he’s also going to be someone we will expect to help out on defense this year,” said Harrison. The Indians will welcome back Ethan Richards (5-5, 165, Jr.) at wide out where he led the team in receptions last year. “In addition to wide receiver Ethan also started at cornerback late in the year and came on as one of our best defensive backs,” said Harrison. “He is a guy we will really look to find a way to get the ball to in as many ways as possible.” The line will be anchored by four-year starter and multi-sport athlete Bryar Thurber (6-0, 235, Sr.) and right tackle Landon Robertson (6-2, 240, Sr.). It appears that Trey Chuculate (5-8, 165, So.) will take over the quarterbacking chores for Stilwell to executive Harrison’s shotgun spread formation.

DEFENSE

In addition to Philpot and Richards mentioned above as contributors to the defensive cause for the Indians, the defensive line will be in the hands of Lyrix Howard (6-2, 205, Sr.). “Lyrix is one of those kids we’ll ask a lot of,” said Harrison. “We moved him around on defense a lot last year until he finally found at home at end. He can also play some wide receiver for us on offense. He’s a great student athlete and representative of our community.” The linebacker group in the 3-4 set will be headed by Dalton Christie (6-2, 190, Jr.) who saw a good bit of action last year and Hunter Miller (5-8, 200, So.). Flying around to make life miserable for opposing receivers will be Cannan Mink (5-9, 165, Jr.) and Jeremiah Chuculate (5-9, 175, Sr.) at the safety spots. “We run a lot of zone fire blitz and front exchange movements,” said Harrison who looks forward to a season where you actually have spring and summer practices before the season starts. Much will depend on how quickly these youngsters mature and how they survive a schedule that has four of the first five games on the road.
