Cheerleader and FFA chapter member Brooklyn Morris is a junior at Poteau High School. Morris followed in the footsteps of her sister into FFA. Now in her third year, Morris said she loves being around other FFA members.
“My favorite part is that no matter where you are across the country, being with other FFA members feels like home. The organization truly is one big happy family. It has also given me the opportunity to meet people not only statewide but also nationwide and travel as far as Indiana to represent my chapter at the National FFA Convention,” said Morris. “I currently am not part of the livestock showing team however I plan to give it a try for my senior year.”
Morris said the skills she has learned while participating in FFA are skills she will carry with her for the rest of her life.
“The leadership skills instilled in me through the FFA have not only helped me be successful in high school, but they are also something that will follow me throughout my life as I attend college and one day join the workforce. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to grow my leadership skills as part of the Poteau FFA Chapter Officer Team for the past two years,” said Morris.
A very active student, Morris is involved in National Honor Society, Science Club, Advanced Choir, Varsity Cheer, Prom Committee and Good Times Community Theatre. She also has a part time job and is a concurrent student at Carl Albert State College.
“I am also part of the Miss Agriculture USA Organization. I will represent Missouri this summer at the national competition for a chance to be crowned National Miss Agriculture USA. This has given me an incredibly diverse platform to advocate for the importance of agriculture,” said Morris. “After graduation, I plan to attend Oklahoma State University and major in Agribusiness (Pre-Law) with a minor in Marketing. I will be the third and final child in my family to have attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University and I can’t wait!”
Morris said students should get excited about FFA and if you are new, try to make the most of every opportunity.
“I would like to be an example to students looking to join the FFA that you don’t have to show livestock or be considered “country” to something that you love in the organization. For a period of time, the only activity that I participated in was the State and National FFA Choruses until I found other things that sparked my interest,” said Morris.
In her free time, you can find Morris in the choir room rehearsing for a musical or practicing for a vocal competition.
“I spend a numerous amount of my time in the choir room. If I’m not in the choir room, I’m almost always with my cheer team cheering on the Pirates on Friday nights at Costner Stadium or travelling across the state to football and basketball games,” said Morris.
