WE’VE GOT SPIRIT

Fifteen members strong, Vian cheerleaders continue to show the “Spirit of the Wolverines” whether they’re on the competition mat or on the football sidelines, rain or shine.  After being part of the Class 3A regional cheer competition, Wolverine cheerleaders energize the student body and fans every Friday night.

Members of the Vian cheer squad include Shelby Batt, Kenzie Bockover, Lyndsey Christie, Izzy Clouse, Alli Farrar, Kaylin Ford, Kloey Kisselburg, KaLee Kolbe, Kat Kosterlitzky. Kyla Palmer, Kayleigh Parker, Hallee Risley, Brianna Rodgers, Chasity Smith and Nicki Stoner. Cheer coaches are Hillary Clark and Kara Branham.

WOLVERINE BAND – LOUD & PROUD

When the Vian band strikes up the school fight song, fans of the Wolverines jump to their feet shouting and singing the words in celebration of another Vian touchdown en route to victory. The VHS band consists of an energetic group of young musicians, most of which are underclassmen. Altogether, in tune and in step the band creates a championship level of school spirit.

ON THE ROAD TO THE PLAYOFFS

After battling through a challenging non-district schedule including the 2020 Class 3A state finalist, Lincoln Christian as well as Eufaula and Gravette, Ark, the march to the state playoffs will include a seven-week journey in order to reach the postseason chase for the Class 2A gold ball.

WOLVERINE FLASHBACK

This season marks the 50th anniversary of the Vian Wolverines winning the Class A state championship. The road to winning the gold ball began with a 14-8 victory over 2A foe Sallisaw before losing to the Selmons and Eufaula Ironheads 24-14. The lone setback fueled the fire of the Purple and Gold who reeled off 12 consecutive wins to claim the school’s only state championship. During that run, the high-powered offense scored more that 50 points in three contests, 58-22 win over Fort Gibson, 54-16 over Westville and 50-8 over Heavener. In the playoffs, Vian crushed Coalgate 46-12 in the first round of the Class A playoffs, beat Beggs 28-12 in round two and beat Hominy 32-14 in the semifinals to set up the showdown with Lawton MacArthur. When the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard, Vian celebrated the championship with a 24-13 win over the Highlanders. Because of concerns with COVID, it has been decided that the 50th reunion for the 1971 football team will be postponed until a later date.
