Wister’s Kourtney Donaho – Tote-A-Poke Athlete of the Month

You might call Wister senior Kourtney Donaho “The Dreamer”.

“Her goal of playing college softball has really driven Kourtney starting with our trip to the state slow pitch tournament last spring,” said her coach Darrion Luce. “She’s got great leadership skills and passion and dreams of playing at the next level.”

For Kourtney, that desire has been ongoing since she started playing softball at the T-ball level. “I played different sports when I was little and I just fell in love with softball and I’ve always dreamed of playing in college. I like being a leader, working with other people and seeing people happy,” said Donaho who also plays the post position for the Lady Wildcat basketball team, is a member of the National Honor Society and is running for senior class president this year.

Kourtney is a four-year starter at Wister who plays catcher in fast pitch and pitcher during the slow pitch season and, as mentioned, was on the team that went to the Class 3A slow pitch tournament. “Going to state was just an awesome experience and was a dream come true,” said Donaho.

Now that the new school year is underway, Kourtney, as a senior, shares some of the leadership responsibility for her team and she seems up to the task. “I think a good leader is someone who always makes the right choice on and off the field as well as being a positive person and just being yourself,” said Kourtney.

And her coach says she’s living up to that goal. “She has a great impact on the field and in the dugout while hitting around .400 for her career,” said Luce.

As far as playing college ball, Kourtney has a plan in place. “I’ve identified a career path I would like to study (business) and so I’m looking for a college that can help me get there as well on the softball diamond,” she explained.

Thus far, Donaho has made visits to Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma Wesleyan. Her immediate goal is to help the Lady Wildcats make a return trip to state, this time in fastpitch. They’re currently 15-5 on the season and ranked ninth in the state in Class A. And with the rest of the fast pitch and all of the slow pitch season still to come, it would seem that Kortney Donaho is well on her way to making her dream come true.
