“Making Moves” perhaps best describes the 2022 outlook for the Muskogee Roughers. After decades of gridiron competition at historic Indian Bowl, the year’s action underneath the Friday Night Lights will take place at the new stadium built on the Muskogee High School campus as the home of the Rougher Nation. Travis Hill begins his second season as head coach with a varsity roster that includes proven talent capable of winning football games in 2022 and confident of their assignments. “The fact that we can lineup and our players know what’s expected gives us confidence,” Hill said noting the familiarity with the offensive and defensive schemes that were new to the squad a year ago. “We’re still a young team but a group that’s has experience at making the right things happen on both sides of the football.” Muskogee returns seven starters to the offensive lineup that will showcase its playmakers behind and offensive front that is bigger, stronger, and experienced. Topping the list of game changers is quarterback Jamarian Ficklin (6-1, 180, So.) who after passing for 2328 yards and 18 touchdowns is drawing plenty of attention from opposing defensive coordinators as well as Division-I recruiters as the crafty lefthander also provides a running threat out of the pocket. Brandon Tolbert (5-9, 190, Sr.), who Hill defines as a legitimate power type ball carrier with ability to reach the end zone on every touch, returns to the anchor the ground game after averaging 5.5 yards per carry last year. Jayden Bell (5-8, 170, Sr.) who turned 50 receptions into 988 yards and nine touchdowns brings stability and elusiveness to the receiver group along with Kayden McGee (6-0, 160, Jr.) who charted 24 receptions last season. The versatility of the Muskogee offense is strengthened by the athleticism of Anthony Watson (6-1, 223, Jr.) who had 38 receptions for 425 yards as well as rushing for 9.0 yards per carry creates mismatches when he lines up at tight end, wide receiver or at running back. The effectiveness of the skill talents will benefit from the size, strength and mobility of the offensive line play including Vernon Pepiakatah (6-1, 290, Jr.) along with Bradyn Henry (6-0, 235, Jr.), Jace Garrett (5-11, 230, Sr.), Wesley Harvey (6-6, 235, Jr.) and Teyon Brewer (6-3, 265, Jr.) and Zach Coffman (5-10, 240, Sr.). A lot of these guys up front saw playing time and have worked hard in the offseason to get stronger to make themselves into football players,” said Hill.
