OFFENSE

“BEWARE OF THE DOGS”

Motivated by a second round exit from the playoffs, Wagoner enters the 2022 season in search of returning to top of Class 4A football and win the school’s sixth state championship since 2011. Offensively, the Bulldogs welcome the return of eight veterans led by Top 100 pick Gabe Rodriguez (5-9, 170, Sr.) whose rushing and passing double-double 1,000 yard effort included 23 touchdowns. Wagoner’s dual threat MVP gained 1,162 yards rushing while passing for 1,164 yards last season. Head coach Dale Condict has multiple options with Rodriguez including running back and receiver while maintaining playmaking talents at quarterback with Kale Charboneau (6-0, 180, So.). The ground game of the Dawgs has a second option when Braylan Roberson (5-11, 220, Sr.) gets the football where he picked up 7.1 yards per carry to total 481 yards and 11 trips to the end zone. Wagoner’s offense will again be balanced thanks to the sure handed pass catching talents of VYPE Top 100 pick Alex Shieldnight (6-4, 215, So), Witt Edwards (6-6, 205, Jr.) and Brayden Skeen (6-0, 165, Sr.) all capable of catching the ball in a crowd or in space and taking the ball to the goal line. Wagoner’s tradition of size, power and mobility in the offensive line continues as two-year starter Jacob Barney (6-1, 255, Sr.) and Dax Griffin (6-4, 285, So.) joins forces with Ryder Aahdal (5-10, 215, Jr.), Roman Garcia (6-3, 235, Sr.) and Caiden Dick (6-0, 230, Sr.) to control the line of scrimmage.

DEFENSE

Perhaps even better than the offensive unit, the Bulldogs will once again pose a dominating cast of playmakers who collectively create game changing highlight reel plays on the defensive side of the ball. Gabe Rodriguez, who rarely leaves the field recorded 108 tackles at strong safety while linebacker Alex Shieldnight made 75 tackles and forced two fumbles including six QB sacks. All three have earned the attention of multiple Division-I recruiters. Brayden Skeen who totaled 43 stops plus 3 interceptions and Shaun Atkins (5-11, 165, Jr.) solidify the secondary rotation of players. Kale Charboneau will return at linebacker after only playing three games before being sidelined with injury where he’ll join forces with Gavin Miller (6-0, 195, So.) who made 19 tackles as a freshman. Braylan Roberson who protected the edge with 85 tackles including five sacks and Roman Garcia (6-3, 235, Sr.) who added six QB sacks and 69 tackles will once again anchor the defensive front. Special teams are another advantage for Wagoner with a pair of proven kickers ready to answer the call. Ethan Muehlenweg (5-10, 185, Sr.) returns from an ACL injury last season after converting 78 of 80 PAT tries in 2020 along with Logan Bloxom (6-2, 185, Jr.) who made 45 of 48 PAT attempts last year. “This team has the potential to be a contender for the gold ball,” Condict confirmed in a humble, modest voice. “Our non-district schedule will be a huge test before we begin district play.”
