OFFENSE

NO EXCUSES….the Golden Demons saw six starters sign college scholarships following last year advancing to the Class 2A semifinals for a fifth straight year leaving huge shoes to fill for 2022. However, the tradition of success at Beggs has firmly established the mentality of “next up” in order to continue winning games on Friday nights. What powers the offensive motor of Beggs is the size, strength and mobility of the front line where VYPE Top 100 choice Kaden Stanton (6-6, 305, Sr.) and Evin Kemp (6-2, 275, Sr.) tip the scales of success. “Kaden already has nine D-I offers. He’s not just athletic and strong but is a smart player,” said Tenison. “Evin is the old school lineman who will run you into the ground and let you know about it.” Jonas Thornton (5-10, 220 Sr.), Jacob Fowler (5-11, 215, Sr.), Josh Phelps (5-10, 265, Jr.), Cameron Brown (6-4, 250, Sr.) and Isaac Taylor (5-10, 205, So.) give the Golden Demons a road grader like offensive front creating space for the many skilled playmakers including VYPE Top 100 pick Red Martel (5-11, 190, Jr.) who raced to 1613 yards and 17 scores last season. “He’s a special talent,” said head coach David Tenison. “Red has the vision, balance and speed to not only go between the tackles but can also stretch the perimeter and outrun opponents to the end zone.” Darieon Johnson (5-10, 225, Sr.) gives another burst of speed as well as power to the ground game. The final decision on who will play quarterback remains for Tenison and the Beggs coaches as Knox Dyson (6-2, 195, Jr.) and Michael Cudney (5-11, 185, Sr.) compete for the starter’s role. “Knox is waiting on his transfer approval by the OSSAA. He throws the ball extremely well,” Tenison explained. “Michael sat out last season due to transfer but learned our system and has worked to earn his chances. Either one will be solid and both will play somewhere if not at quarterback.” Ryan Grayson (6-1, 170, So.) who amassed 800 yards total offense as a freshman will join Braylon Davis (6-2, 170, Sr.) and Bralin Claybon (6-1, 165, Sr.) at receiver.

DEFENSE

Tenison points out the defensive unit, which welcome six returning starters, will play from their 4-2-5 alignment with the speed and intensity to take away opponents strengths. “Initially, the bulk of our experience is in the front seven. That said, our secondary unit has the ability to get the job done.” Chance Jordan (6-0, 265, Sr.) who posted 67 tackles including 17 sacks and Destiny Aigbiremonlen (6-2, 275, Sr.) anchor the front at defensive tackle while TD Coleman (6-2, 215, Sr.), Jacob Fowler and Jonas Thornton will close the edge at defensive end. Darieon Jordan returns as the leading tackler after making 110 stops at linebacker and will be joined by DJ Strother (6-1, 235, So.) and Logan Hicks (5-10, 155, So.) who started several games last year as a freshman. Not many opponents can outrun the Demons secondary athletes that include cornerbacks Ryan Grayson, Red Martel and Lewis Jupiter (5-10, 150, Jr.) while Braylon Davis, Ayden Hamilton (6-2, 175, Jr.), Michael Cudney and Knox Davis patrol sideline to sideline and deep from their safety positions. “Despite our losses due to graduation, the outlook for continued success remains bright,” Tenison said with confidence.
