OFFENSE

The Spiro Bulldogs will welcome their second new head coach in as many years as Kyle Fowler steps in to take over the program. The offensive line will be the heart of the offense in the early going with four returning starters up front led by Dalton Dollar (5-10, 240, Sr.).

“Dalton is a two-way returning starter that brings a ton of leadership to our program. He is the first one in the fieldhouse and last to leave every day,” said Fowler. Joining Dollar up front will be Calvin McKinney (5-11, 235, Sr.), Bryan Hammontree (6-0, 225, Sr.) and Logan Carter (6-4, 255, Sr.). The spread offense will be quarterbacked by Brycen Graham (6-5, 195, So.). “Brycen will step into the role of quarterback after being a wide receiver last year,” said Fowler. “He’s a big kid who had a good spring and will continue to improve in our 7-on-7 league during the summer.” A couple of seniors will return to flag down Graham’s tosses for 2022 in Blake Dedmon (5-8, 145) and Gabe Perez (5-9, 160).

“We are very optimistic about the upcoming season,” said Fowler. “We have several returning starters and feel like we have a good group of seniors to provide our leadership,” said Fowler.

DEFENSE

The Bulldogs will use a 4-2-5 defense this season and hope that experience will be a big key. “Our defensive philosophy will be to swarm the football and with seven returning starters we hope our experience will keep us in every game,” said Fowler. The linebackers will be the key to success for Spiro with four returners in those spots led by Jordan Johnson (5-9, 170, Sr.), Hunter Sparks (5-8, 165, Sr.), Kadon Craig (5-11, 190, Jr.) and Dollar. Carter will be one of the anchors on the defensive line and Tommy Worton (5-9, 155, Sr.) will be the big hitter in the secondary. The Bulldogs will move to District 2A-6 this year, saying adieu to perennial playoff power Vian but facing a new raft of opponents led by always tough Eufaula with Heavener being the only familiar district foe. They do get a nice schedule break as they play four of their first five games at home.
