Tahlequah Volleyball Character Counts – Adison Steeley – Presented by Workman’s

On the volleyball court Adison Steeley spends a lot of her time close to the floor. As a defensive specialist playing in the back row, her primary job is to first anticipate where the other team will hit the ball and then get under the ball and keep it alive for her offense. Often times that means hitting the deck to “dig” it out to make the save. The job is so important it even has a statistic dedicated to the art. Her secret to being a good digger is pretty simple.

“For me it’s just a matter of practice and giving it my best whether it’s at practice or in a game. You have to guess where the other team is going to hit the ball and move to that area and it happens so quickly that if you guess wrong, you’re probably going to miss it.”

On and off the court, Adison is big on the word kindness to describe herself.

“Kindness is the most important aspect for me because it goes a long way and just being kind to someone could make their whole day because you never know what someone else is going through. I try to compliment at least one person every day for something whether it’s a deed or something they’re wearing or their appearance,” said Adison who also plays doubles on the Lady Tigers tennis team.

In that same vein, Steeley says that good character is another important trait in her life.

“I always try to keep a positive mindset even when things aren’t going my way and try to overlook the negative things.”

Adison’s Grandpa Rick is the kind of person that she tries to emulate.

“He always gave 110 percent in his work and that’s the way I want to be.”

Adison carries a 4.0 GPA which she feels will help her with her future goal of going to OU and becoming a dentist. When she leaves Tahlequah High, Adison knows how she would like to be remembered.

“I would like to think that I was fun to hang around and a good friend.”

With her strengths of kindness and good character always on display, that legacy would seem to be a sure bet for Adison Steeley.
