Tahlequah Tigers Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by BancFirst

Coach: Quinn Woolridge

21-22 Record: 17-8

The Tigers return to Class 5A competition with a roster that includes seven players that saw extensive varsity action in last year’s 17-win campaign.  The experience and talents of three returning starters are a foundation of success this year including Hayden Smith (6-7, C, Sr.) who has averaged 15 points and 8.1 rebounds per game the past two seasons who will reunite with Cale Matlock (6-3, F, Sr.) who averaged 8.0 points and 4.1 rebounds and high-level defender Shaun Young (5-10, G, Sr.) who added 5.0 points for coach Quinn Woolridge.

The valuable minutes of play gained by three-point shooting and ball handling skills of Zeke Guerrero (5-10, G, Jr.) who added 7.0 points per game and the confidence of Donovan Smith (6-5, F, Jr.) who can score from the perimeter as well as the paint along with the defensive and competitive nature of Brycen Smith (6-0, G, Jr.) will solidify the Tigers on-court efforts as well as the versatility of other players including Lukas Woolridge (6-4, F, So.), Cash McAlvain (5-11, G, So.) and defensive talents of Cole Robertson (6-1, F, Jr.).

“The move from 6A to class 5A makes for a better path to playoff success for us this year; but that’s not an easy road considering the level of talent top to bottom,” said Woolridge.
