Keys Cougars Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Rylie Lynch Century 21 Wright Real Estate

Coach: Greg Barnes

21-22 Record: 15-9

The Keys Cougars return three full-time and one part-time starters from last year and feature a roster full of juniors and seniors that will give them a lot of depth and leadership. The duo of senior Trent Nichols and junior Garin Barnes lead the way for the Cougars. Barnes, who averaged 6.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game last year also led the team in field goal and three-point shooting percentage as well as rebounding, blocked shots and taking charges. Nichols averaged 6.8 points a game last year and drew praise from his coach. “Trenton is a crafty ball handler with a scorer’s mentality. He can hit the three or is strong enough to drive to the basket and finish through contact,” said Barnes.

The third full-time returning starter is senior Reed Trimble who averaged 7.0 points per game in 2021. “Reed is a true gym rat who has a great understanding of the game. Last year he was our second leading scorer and stealer and led the team in free throw percentage. He has the ability to play anywhere from a one to a four position,” said Barnes.

Josiah Wolf is another senior that Barnes will be counting on this year. “Josiah had a great summer and did a good job of helping us on the boards. Offensively, he has great range as well,” stated Barnes. Two other seniors are also expected to make inroads as possible starters this year in Colton Combs and Bronc Quetone while freshman Joe Green could be a big help for the Cougars as well. “Joe is a long, thin-built guard who is also a good defender. He can finish on the offense with a soft floater or take it all the way to the rim,” said Barnes.
