Sequoyah Tahlequah Indians Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Edna Sells Century 21

BOYS

Coach: Jeff Walker

21-22 Record: 5-20

After a year of struggling to resurrect the program from it’s Covid-caused shutdown in 2020, second year coach Jeff Walker feels like things might be starting to turnaround. “We have quite a few players returning that gained a lot of valuable experience last year and if we play like we are capable of playing, I think we have a chance to be very competitive this year.” Part of a team’s chances for success rely on having a winning attitude and maybe that’s best typified for the Indians by Jake Brown (5-10, Sr.). “Jake is a competitor and hates to lose,” said Walker. “He doesn’t care who gets the credit as long as the team wins. He is our best communicator on the floor and just adds a lot of things to the team that aren’t necessarily reflected on stat sheets.” Another team-first player returning for Sequoyah is Brody Young (6-0, Jr.). Walker says, “Brody is a very versatile player with his skill set and his effort is always 100 percent. He isn’t the most vocal player but is very coachable.

Another senior that will aid the effort this year is Kellan Holmes (5- 6). “He battled some injuries last year but still had two games of 30+ points. He shoots, handles the ball and passes all very well,” said Walker. There are also a couple of players that Walker is hoping will be majorcontributors. One is Trenton Drywater (6-0, Jr.) who won’t be eligible until after Christmas. “He’s another kid who’s very versatile and will be a tough matchup for opponents. He could be a huge factor in our season,” according to Walker. The other is freshman Aidan Armontrout who will play in the post. “We like his potential, and he should improve as he gains more experience at the high school level,” said Walker.
