OFFENSE

The Webbers Falls Warriors are riding high off a challenging 2020 season that saw them overcome Covid and all to make it to the second round of the Class B playoffs. The question now is do they have enough returning talent to keep that momentum going?  “We had a good year last year and am hoping to build on it,” said coach Trent Holt. “We’ll be young but I think we can compete for a playoff spot.” The good news in that regard is the return of three starters including quarterback Maddux Shelby (5-8, 160, So.) who ran for 800 yards and passed for another 500 in his freshman season. “Maddux is a tough, hard-nosed three-sport athlete who is a very good ball carrier and passer,” said Holt. “He’s a very knowledgeable player and we expect him to have a very good year. We’ll be primarily a one-back set and rely heavily on the quarterback run game.” On the downside, the Warriors will have to find a replacement for workhorse running back Josh Mason and Holt is hopeful that transfer Blaise Herriman may be the answer. Juniors Chandler Long (5-8, 165) at center and Caden Dishman (6-2, 220) at tight end will be the sparkplugs on the offensive line. “Caden is our unsung hero,” said Holt. “He never misses a practice, will play anywhere he is needed, and is a team leader that the other kids look up to and follow.”

DEFENSE

As is usually the case in the smaller schools, the names you see on offense will also play prominent roles on defense as well. Shelby will be linebacker and Dishman will work at defensive end while Long will be a linebacker in Holt’s 3-2 defense. “We want to be a more attacking style defense this year and we’ll be doing a lot of stunting and blitzing as well,” said Holt. Hunter Holt, who played for his dad as a Warrior, is joining the Webbers Falls coaching staff this year.
