OFFENSE

Graduation took its toll on the Porter Pirates and new head coach Denton Long will have his work cut out for him as he gets ready for the 2021 season. Nonetheless he sounds an optimistic tone as he talks about the upcoming campaign. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a Pirate. I am going to build on last year’s successes, and I want to create a tradition of having hard working student athletes that expect to win every time they are on the field,” said the new coach. The first order of business will be finding a new quarterback where C.J.Price (6-0, 195, So.) is the mid-summer favorite to go along with Nathan Johnson (5-11, 190, Jr.) who returns at running back. He’ll be the workhorse for the Pirate in Long’s offensive formation. “We’ll run a split back pro formation as our base set but we will use a lot of formations to put us in the best situations for our playmakers with a philosophy of running the ball as much as possible,” said Long. Also returning to the Pirate offense will be Kejuan Reynolds (6-4, 240, Sr.) at tight end and Kyle Anderson (5-11, 250, Jr.) in the O-line.

DEFENSE

“Our defense will be based out of the 3-4 and we want to be a swarming defense with all 11 men attacking the ball,” said Long. Two-year starter Wyatt Jackson (5-10, 200, Jr.) will be the heart of that swarming defense at linebacker along with Kaleb Brewer (5-10, 170, Sr.) while Long looks at sophomore Camden Price (6-0, 160) as a starter in the defensive backfield. “The defense will be building off of a lot of success and the offense will be exciting to watch,” said Long. “There is a great mix of young athletes to build on and experienced players to lead the team. Look out for the Pirates in 2021.”
