McCurtain’s Sydnie Tackett – Athlete Of The Month Presented By Compassion Home Care

No matter if she’s in the circle throwing strikes or off the field bringing smiles to the faces of others, Sydnie Tackett of McCurtain is striving her best to make every day a better day.

“I try to do everything to the best of my ability no matter if that’s playing sports, in the classroom or just spending time with my friends,” replied the Lady Bulldogs sophomore who continues to prove her talents on the dirt as the starting pitcher.

“I can play anywhere coach wants me to play but my main position is pitcher,” she said. “I’ve put a lot of time working on my game.”

It’s another example of how Tackett displays her desire to prove that character counts.

“Character is how you live every moment every day. It’s proof of your true personality.”

When asked to define herself in three words, Tackett hesitated before choosing her response.

“Humble, quiet and funny,” she replied in a modest voice. “But most important to me is honesty. When you do the right thing, you don’t have to make an excuse.”

Her coach at McCurtain likes the commitment of his sophomore talent.

“Sydnie will do anything you ask,” said Vernon Scarberry. “She’s always in a good mood. You couldn’t ask for a better person to have on your team.”

Tackett, who wears her favorite number 21 because she says it’s her lucky number, enjoys spending her free time on social media.

“My favorite app has to be Snapchat, because I’m always talking to my friends.”

Noting that her favorite athlete is former Sooners pitcher Paige Lowary, Tackett has visions of playing softball on a championship level.

“My dream come true would be an opportunity to play softball at the University of Oklahoma, just like Paige,” said Tackett. “But for now, I’m focused on playing to the best to my ability and not let my team down.”
