Okemah’s Avery Vick – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Ag Credit

Avery Vick of Okemah grew up watching her father and grandfather work around livestock, so it was natural for Vick to join a club like 4-H.

“I have participated in 4-H since the fifth grade. My school’s Ag teacher, Mr. Teel, has always been able to help with my projects,” said Vick. “My dad and grandpa were the first ones to teach me and help me get started in it.”

Being part of 4-H has provided Vick an avenue to do something she loves, which is show her animals.

“The thing I enjoy the most about 4-H is getting to go to the shows and meeting new people. I also really enjoy spending time with my animals,” said Vick. “I show cattle and I showed pigs in the fifth and sixth grade, but I have now shown cattle since the seventh grade.”

Now a junior in high school, Vick is a member of the cheer and track teams at Okemah High School, and she carries a 4.0 GPA.

“I enjoy being on the cheer team because it’s a lot of fun and I really enjoy competing,” said Vick. “I really love my teammates because we have fun together and get along pretty well.”

Vick said her family has been a big influence in her life and if she can influence someone to join 4-H or FFA she will.

“My whole family is a big influence in my life, but I think my track coach and my grandpa are the biggest influences because they always believe in me even when I don’t believe in myself,” said Vick. “If anyone is considering joining 4-H or FFA, it definitely takes commitment and you have to be willing to work hard.”
