Keys High School sophomore Chloee Barnes is a member of the varsity golf team, varsity cheer and the FFA chapter at school. Barnes first got started in FFA during her first year of high school.

“I first got involved in FFA my freshman year, but I’ve always been involved in Ag,” said Barnes. “My eighth-grade math teacher and my Ag teacher’s wife is the one who first asked if I wanted to show which jumpstarted my Ag career.”

Once involved, Barnes jumped in and ran with the program. Now she shows sheep and loves being part of the activities that FFA has to offer.

“The thing I love most about being involved in FFA is doing it with my best friends, meeting new people, and just experiencing new things,” said Barnes. “I’m involved in the show team, livestock judging team, cattle grading team, and officer team.”
Other activities Barnes enjoys doing at school include SWAT, Mu Alpha Theta and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Being part of the cheer team is something she loves as well.

“What I love most about being on the cheer team is the bond I have with my teammates, and the excitement I feel right before a game starts,” said Barnes. “The thing I love most about my team and teammates is how no matter what we always encourage each other and even we mess up we just laugh together and figure it out.”

Barnes said her father has been a big influence in life and has taught her the value of hard work.

“I would say my father has been a big influence on my life because he has worked hard for what he has. Also found something he truly enjoys not something to just make money at, and I hope one day I can find a career that I enjoy just as much,” said Barnes.

For future FFA students, Barnes offers this piece of advice.

“My advice to students wanting to join FFA would be to go for it, try new things, and at first you may think these people are crazy but you come to discover it’s the best kind of crazy.”
