Checotah’s Kloee Vanmeter – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Ag Credit

Before Kloee Vanmeter of Checotah High School was involved in FFA, she was a member of the 4-H Club. Vanmeter would late join the FFA in the eighth grade.

“My parents got me involved in the showing aspect of FFA. Mrs. Ward, my Ag teacher at the time was who encouraged me and got me the most involved in the leadership and contest aspects of FFA,” said Vanmeter.

Being a member of the FFA chapter at Checotah High School has provided Vanmeter with many great memories and experiences. From meeting new people to showing livestock, Vanmeter has been involved with many of the activities the FFA provides to the students.

“I enjoy watching other members and people around me become successful and always working hard towards their goals,” said Vanmeter. “I am a chapter officer, show livestock, compete at speech contest and I am part of the cattle grading and livestock judging teams.”

Vanmeter currently shows Simmental and Shorthorn cattle. Having livestock and tending to their needs is a big responsibility. A fact not lost on Vanmeter as she prepares her animals for upcoming competitions.

Away from the barn, you can usually find Vanmeter participating in varsity softball and National Honor Society. The senior plays second base and utility for the Lady Wildcats. Vanmeter said her parents are her biggest influence in life.

“They have always supported me and pushed me to be my very best. They have taught me to have a strong work ethic, aim high, work hard and to value all relationships. My parents have matured me, guided, and comforted me throughout life,” said Vanmeter. “My mom taught me how to be patient and to appreciate the small things. She taught me how to be patient and resilient in times of hardships and difficulties. My dad has taught me the true meaning of hard work and generosity.”

Vanmeter offers some friendly advice for anyone who is looking for a place to belong. “My biggest advice to someone considering joking the FFA would be, come into the organization with an open heart, don’t be scared to try new things, get out of your comfort zone, and most importantly have fun,” said Vanmeter.
