Convincing Camdyn Johnson to join the FFA was easy for the officers who showed up to her seventh-grade class. Now a senior, Johnson said being part of FFA at Sallisaw High School has been a highlight of her high school experience.

“I joined FFA in eighth grade. I have enjoyed this organization ever since. In seventh grade when the FFA officers came to speak to us it immediately sparked my interest,” said Johnson. “FFA has shown me the importance of being a leader, being involved in the community, and the ability to take care of animals. Also, FFA holds high expectations for all members.”

There are many other activities Johnson has participated in as a member of FFA.

“I was involved in the Opening and Closing Ceremony my eighth-grade year. I have shown a sheep for four years and made sale every year at the Sequoyah County Livestock Show,” said Johnson. “Joining FFA has been one of my best decisions and has broadened my horizons making me the person I am today. There are many opportunities for all members and is a place to be yourself.”

Johnson also plays varsity softball for the Black Diamonds.

“I play fastpitch and slowpitch softball. This past year the Sallisaw softball team has grown in many positive ways. Coach Gehrke is always there to lift us up and provide us with the knowledge to play the game. My teammates are like sisters to me. On bad days, they never fail to cheer me up,” said Johnson.

Once Johnson has graduated from Sallisaw High School, she plans to attend college and pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy.
Johnson said she must thank her grandparents for all they have done for her over the years. “My grandparents, Margaret and Gus Perry are a huge inspiration in my life. They own their own businesses and are very influential citizens in our town. They show love to everyone around them. I aspire to be like them,” said Johnson.
