OFFENSE
The offense for the Porter Pirates will center on VYPE TOP 100 choice Camden Price (6-0, 205, Jr.) who rushed for 848 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 12 yards per carry last year. “Camden is three-year starter that is explosive on both sides of the ball,” said second-year coach Denton Long. Sophomore Bradyn Israel (6-4, 225) will take over the quarterbacking chores and with his arm and size should be a true dual threat signal caller. The line will feature returning starters Kyle Andersen (6-0, 260, Sr.) and Miguel Chavez (6-4, 280, So.). “Miguel is a two-year starter and is a workhorse in the weight room. He sets a good example for the team by never missing workouts and will be a great player as he develops,” said Long. Back to snare the passes from Israel will be Billy Wisely (5-8, 160, Jr.) at wide receiver. The Pirates will run multiple two-back sets with an emphasis on the counter play according to Long.
DEFENSE
There are six back for the Pirates on the defensive side of the ball headed by Price who had 80 tackles and 11 sacks in 2021 from his linebacker spot. Israel will join him at inside linebacker while Wisely and Mason Seaton (5-8, 150, Sr.) will lockdown the back end of the defense. Up front Andersen will be at a tackle spot and Chavez will be the power at nose guard. There will be some reshuffling in Porter’s District A-8 this year with Haskell, Panama and Pocola replacing Colcord, Warner, and Hulbert as district foes where the Pirates must play four of its final six games on the road. “We’re looking to improve on last year’s four wins and make the playoffs. Our goal is to compete for the district title and have a home playoff game. We’ve got several returning starters for a solid core to the keep the improvements going,” said Long.
