QUICK HITS:

Muldrow and Checotah play for the first time since 2007. The Bulldogs currently own a three-game winning streak over the Wildcats. 2022 will mark the 34th meeting between the schools.

OFFENSE

After a season of new coaches and new faces in new places, the Muldrow are ready to get the train moving back on the winning track in 2022. Perhaps the biggest contributor to that momentum is Trenden Collins (6-2, 170, Sr.). Collins, a four-year starter and a VYPE Top 100 selection for 2022, played running back last season where he rushed for 579 yards and eight touchdowns but he’s a good enough athlete that he can play in different spots. “Trenden is a four-year starter in football and basketball,” said second-year coach Brandon Ellis. “Last year he eclipsed 1000 all-purpose yards in football, went over the 1,000-point mark in basketball and is the two-time defending Class 4A high jump champ as well as being a great role model for our younger players.” Back calling the cadence under center for Muldrow will be Reid Sutton (6-1, 165, Jr.) who passed for 852 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021. Bobby Plank (6-1, 160, Sr.) will be one of Sutton’s prime targets along with tight end Brysen Limore (5-11, 190, Sr.). The line might be a bit of question mark for the Bulldogs with Eli Crumrine (5-11, 240, Sr.) being the lone returning starter. After a year of adjusting to Ellis’ Multiple I and spread offense, the Bulldogs should be ready to go full speed ahead in 2022.

DEFENSE

Collins will also be at the heart of the Bulldog defense at safety where he had 93 tackles and four interceptions last year. Joining him in the secondary will be Plank who put up 54 tackles in 2021 and Cam Matthews (5-10, 180, Sr.). Crumrine will again be the lone returner on the defensive

where he had three sacks last year. Tasked to stop things in the middle and edges will be linebackers Brayden Akins (5-11, 155, Sr.) and Cody Gibbs (5-6, 135, Jr.). Ellis also hopes to get some contributions on both sides of the ball from sophomore Jacob Gregory who can play multiple positions. The Bulldogs will run multiple defensive sets depending on the opponent.

“We try to keep it where our kids can play as fast as possible. If our kids are playing fast and understand their assignments then we are a better football team,” said Ellis. Muldrow will drop to Class 3A this year and be in District 3A-3 with Berryhill, Checotah, Lincoln Christian, Locust Grove, Seminole and Stigler.
