Westville Yellowjackets Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Northeastern Health System

Whenever veteran head coach Ron Dunaway says “we’ve got a chance”, the opponents on the Yellowjackets schedule immediately take notice. With arguably two of the top performers in the area, Buddy Hammer (6-6, F, Sr.) and Cale Jacob (5-9, G, Sr.) joined by Alex Barton (6-4, G, Sr.) and Evan Singleterry (5-11, G, Sr.) to provide four starters with game time experience, Dunaway likes the opportunity ahead for this year’s team after reaching the Class 3A area finals. “Buddy is the kind of player that can take over a game while Cale is our best shooter.” After sitting out most of his sophomore campaign due to injury Hammer made the most of his chances last season using his size and quickness to create scoring chances all over the floor to average 15 points per game while Jacob uses his mobility to engineer outside scoring chances as well as finish at the rim off resulting in double digit totals.

Barton uses his length to score in the lane and can take his opponent on the perimeter to score consistently while Singleterry balances the floor at the point as well as delivering lock down defense efforts. Westville will get additional support from the efforts of Adon Singleterry (5-9, G, So.), Uriah Sanchez (5-10, G, So.), Brock Hammer (6-0, G, So) and Cash Jacob (5-11, G, Sr.). “The pieces are here for a deep playoff run if we stay healthy and our young players grow in experience and learn their role in our system,” said Dunaway whose team reached the state tournament in 2020.
