Howe Lions Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Sans Bois Hospice

GIRLS
Coach: Chris Brown
21-22 Record: 24-6

For the Lady Lions, traveling to the state tournament is just a given with six state titles with two in the last four years and tournament appearances in between including a trip to the state finals last year. Veteran coach Chris Brown begins his 24th year at Howe. “We will have to replace a good deal of experience off our state runner-up team of last year, but we have a dedicated group of seniors ready to step in and take over.” Leading that group is Gracie Lute (5-9, Sr.) who averaged 6.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game last season. “Gracie has been an integral part of our program all three years she’s been here,” said Brown. “She’s an extremely versatile player who can play almost anywhere on the court and has already had a couple of college offers.”

Another solid returner is Abby Huie ((5-6, Sr.) who averaged just over 4.0 points a game. “She’s a good shooter but an even better defender who is constantly deflecting passes or getting steals,” said Brown. Other upperclassmen leading the way for Howe are Ashlynn Dalton (5-9), Jurnee Williams (5-3), Kylie Smith (5-1) and Serenity Cecil (5-4). Junior Karsyn Nye (5-8) also saw a lot of playing time last year averaging 1.4 points a game and will be a tough match-up at guard. Brown is also looking at some talented sophomores that are ready to step into the Lady Lions winning tradition in Jozlyn Johnson. Jazz Harrison and Preslee Jackson. And there will also be a number of freshmen that will be battling for playing time in Kadynce Delt, Breanna Wann, Mariah Smith, Slatey Jo Free, Karley Duvall, Marely Jiminez and Kylie Mundy. “Our team goals always include getting better from October until March and playing for championships. The players may change but the goals are always the same,” said Brown.
