Oktaha’s Ava Scott – Athlete of the Month – Presented by York Street Tire

So near, yet so far away…after missing a trip to the state tournament last season by only one game, Ava Scott has delivered under pressure with the “Eye of the Tiger” approach and is determined to play in the “Big House” this season.

The 5-9 shooting guard leads Oktaha in scoring totals by averaging 18.2 points per contest while grabbing 6.9 rebounds entering the 2023 portion of her junior season as Oktaha has roared out to a 7-2 record to start the new year. The first week of 2023, Scott averaged 19 points per contest and seven rebounds to earn MVP honors as Oktaha won the Tushka Tournament.

A part of Oktaha’s success on the basketball court since her freshman season, Scott has maintained double-digit scoring results by averaging 15.1 points and 5.2 rebounds.

Last fall, Scott was a key performer on the softball field with a .409 batting average in 115 trips to the plate while closing the middle defense at shortstop by totaling a .942 fielding percentage as Oktaha came up one game shy of the state tournament.

“She’s a special player that can score at all spots on the floor,” said Oktaha coach Kia Holmes. “She runs and sees the floor well and handles the ball with precision while making pinpoint passes to set up her teammates for scoring chances. Ava has the ability to take over games.”

Scott is on target to reach 1,000 career points after her production through January games, remaining games on this year’s schedule, and a senior campaign remaining.
