Stigler’s Madi Jones – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Stigler Milling Company

Stepping Up…for Madi Jones it’s what empowers her every decision, on and off the court.

“I try to improve everyday, not only as an athlete but also as a person,” Madi said with a smile. “Not just my efforts but also by supporting my teammates trying to find a way to make us all better players, better people.”

Now in her third season on the Stigler Lady Panthers’ basketball team, Madi’s determination continues to make a difference in more than the final score.

“She’s a great teammate, a player that cares just as much or more so about others than herself. Madi is so humble,” said SHS girls’ basketball coach Gary Hollingshed. “In everything she does, she represents our team and our school with total respect. Madi is just a special person, the kind of player that every coach wants on their team, setting the example for others to follow.”

Whether she’s on the basketball court or in the outfield during softball season, Madi strives to stay positive, encouraging others, as well as herself.

“The most challenging thing is just keeping a good mindset; keep going, always keep fighting no matter what,” Jones said. “If you really want something, you have to give your all everyday. My favorite quote is ‘Trust yourself that you can do it and get it.’”

According to the Stigler junior, her approach to finding a winning way is thanks to the everyday influence of her mom, Jacqueline Durland.

“My mother finds a way to overcome any difficult challenge and she never fails us,” Madi said. “She’s truly amazing. She’s why I strive to always put the needs of others before myself.”

During the past three years, Madi has earned multiple honors including Black Diamond All-Conference as the Defensive Player of the Year, as well as Outfielder of the Year in softball. But above all, the support of family, including her teammates, and the community is something that Madi wouldn’t trade for the world.

“Without question, I believe growing up in a small town has really helped me take chances and know that I have the support of everyone to be a success in the future,” said Madi, who aspires to become a physical therapist. “Being able to have fun, play with my friends and just represent our town is what matters most to me.”

Defined by those who know her best as caring and respectful, there’s one thing for certain, Madi Jones is not afraid to step up or step out, and she does it with Panther Pride.
