ALL-STATE HONORS FOR TAYA
A three-time state qualifier and 2022 state champion, Taya Hunt has left a legacy for other girls to follow on the wrestling mat and for her achievements and influence. Taya earned All-State honors from the Oklahoma Wrestling Coaches Association. After an undefeated gold medal season a year ago, Taya wrapped up her senior season with a 24-4 record.
LADY WOLVERINES SEEK GOLD ON THE TRACK
The 17-member squad continues to improve their times and distances as the OSSAA championships approach at the end of April. The collection of speed and strength consists of four seniors including last year’s lone returning state qualifier, Maci Smith who competes in the high jump joined by three other seniors, one junior, seven sophomores and five freshmen.
Halli Russell, Jaden Frazier, Rebel Simon, Avery Wright, Kala Gibbins, Taya Hunt, Skyelar Locust along with Nicki Stoner, Lyndsey Christie and others give their coach reasons to smile.
“I’m excited to see how we’ll compete the rest of the way,” said coach Tina Ramos. “This is a hard-working group of girls with the ability to earn plenty of medals and points at regionals.”
VIAN BASEBALL SWINGS FOR THE FENCES
With very few words and the challenge requiring hard work, coach John Brockman’s baseball team is on a mission to return to the OSSAA state baseball tournament in May.
“We’ve got a chance to be a very competitive team,” said the Wolverines head coach. “We must keep getting better everyday and see what happens when it counts most.”
Ranked among the top eight teams in Class 2A, the lineup card has plenty of talent including Arkansas Razorback commit Diego Ramos, Connor Collins, Dreighton Fletcher, Lynden Manning, Connor Flynn, Riley Ellis, Destry Bethel, Michael Polecat, Cash Collins, Kaden Fulbright, Brandon Redburn and others.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS KICKOFF IN AUGUST
Setting the stage for what Wolverine fans expect to be another state title contending team, the 2023 Vian football season begins with a road trip to battle defending Class 2A state champion Washington on August 25th. The opponents in the five home games at St. John Stadium will include Eufaula, Warner, Henryetta, Keys and Sequoyah Tahlequah.
