Howe’s Graicyln Dorsey – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Sans Bois Hospice

By Emory Kouplen

“It means so much to me to get to provide our school with team spirit, getting to connect with our community by leading them in our crowd cheers. Being a part of this team allows me to be a part of something bigger than myself.”

Graiclyn Dorsey is a Junior at Howe High School and is the captain of the cheer team. She has been dancing since she was three years old. She has a love for cheerleading and the cheer community that she has found over time.

“What motivates me to be the best captain and cheerleader are my cheer sisters. Having their backs and knowing they will also have mine. Also, my family. I always want to do my best for my family to make them proud,” she shares.

She has been able to navigate her cheer career through the support that she has gotten from those she looks up to the most. She is thankful for the impact that two teachers, Rodney and Jamie Nobles, have had on her life.

“Rodney is always there to let you know that you can do it no matter how hard it may be. Jamie is alway there to cheer you on and she is always in your corner. And she’s also there to give you a huge hug!”

Graiclyn shared that the highlight of her cheering career so far has been “getting the

opportunity to lead my cheer sisters this past year. Also, getting to cheer at the state basketball tournament every year of my career. Our Lions are awesome!! Go Big Red!”

While she does not have much time left to cheer at Howe, Graiclyn will always be thankful for her sport, the people she has met, and all that she has accomplished.

“Being a part of a team shapes who you are, and you always have a place to call home. Your cheer sisters not only become your friends, but they also become your family.”
