Hilldale

Q&A with Hilldale’s Victoria Wiedel– Presented By Economy Pharmacy

Victoria Wiedel was passionate about cheerleading for much of her life. But after being a regular contributor to Hilldale’s 2021 Class 4A march to a state golf title but missing the state tournament, she gave up cheerleading and that passion went to the golf course.

In 2022, Wiedel and company won state.  In 2023, she finished as an all-state golfer with top-10 finishes in every tournament leading up to state, where she was 11th.  And now, it’s on to Southwestern Christian University in Bethany to continue swinging the clubs.

VYPE: What’s your favorite memory from this season?
VW:
Playing in Miami, I shot my best round ever (a 79, 7 over). I was back and forth with Amanda Lee of Collinsville, who I was playing with.  She beat me by a stroke.

VYPE: How about the best of your career?
VW:
There’s so many. My teammates and I always had a blast, but I’d say repeating at state as a junior because I was on the team that year at state. The year before I wasn’t but I played a lot that year in the top five in tournaments.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?
VW:
I’m a calm person and being on the course is so fun. I can just relax and not worry about anything.

VYPE: What traits describe you?
VW:
I’m calm. I try to be humble and not get angry, and I’m an upbeat person. I try not to let the worst things get to me.

VYPE: What is your dominant trait?
VW:
Being humble, I think. Just not letting anything get to my head and just keep pushing forward.

VYPE: What teammate has had the biggest impact on you?
VW:
Aubrey Morton. When I first started playing she used to give me rides all the time when I couldn’t drive and she was always there with hugs and pushing me to get better.

VYPE: What course, anywhere, would you love to play but haven’t?
VW:
Payne’s Valley (near Branson, Mo.).  We visited it one year but I didn’t get to play it. I’d love to go back and do that.

VYPE: Here’s your chance to thank anyone out there at this point in your life.
VW:
Certainly my mom and dad (Rhonda and Vic). For being there supporting me in everything.
