9 Q’s with Beggs’ Rickey Smith
VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?
Rickey Smith: My favorite coach is my father he has been coaching me since Little League, and he’s who i model my game after.
VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?
RS: My whole team supports me, but the two that support me the most are Caleb and Jaylen.
VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?
RS: I don’t have a favorite teacher.
VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?
RS: To prepare for the season, my dad and I would wake up at 7 a.m. on the weekdays and Saturday. On Sunday, the gym wouldn’t open until 1 p.m., but we went every day for two months this summer.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
RS: Basketball has taught me a lot about life, but the most important lesson is that hard work will take you a long way.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?
RS: My favorite memory is when we played Okmulgee and I had 29 points. We were battling that game and sadly lost by 1.
VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season (individual or team goals)?
RS: Individually, I would like to have a 30-point triple double, but for the team, I say a championship run.
VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?
RS: The matchup I can’t wait for is Preston; they have been our rivaling for some time now, and they’re pretty good.
VYPE: What are your plans after high school?
RS: After high school, hopefully, I get a full ride scholarship and go to college.
