Madilyn Jones, a talented basketball player from Stigler High School, shares her basketball journey, influences and aspirations in this spotlight.

Madilyn expresses her admiration for Coach Gary Hollingshed: “I’ve enjoyed all of my coaches, but a coach that’s really stuck out is Gary Hollingshed. He’s been there for me through everything, not just basketball.” Coach Hollingshed’simpact goes beyond the court, making Madilyn appreciate the early morning practices as a privilege. 

Madilyn’s appreciation extends to her lifelong friends and teammates, Hiahni Howard and Jordan Johnson: “I’ve played with them my whole life. They’ve stuck with me through everything.” 

Reflecting on her academic journey, Madilyn cites her third-grade teacher, Mrs. Guthrie, as her favorite: “She welcomed me with love when I first moved to Stigler.” Mrs. Guthrie’s continued support stands as a testament to the impact a caring teacher can have on a student’s life.

Madilyn’s off-season focus revolves around enhancing her shooting skills. Despite the challenges of managing various sports, she dedicated time to the gym, aiming not only to elevate her individual performance but also to contribute to the team’s cohesion and success.

Basketball, for Madilyn, is a source of life lessons: “It doesn’t matter what others think of you, if you believe in it, you will achieve it.” This mindset exemplifies the determination and confidence she brings to both the court and her daily life.

Madilyn’s favorite memory involves a pivotal moment in a game against Hartshorne: “My favorite memory is when Hiahni made an important three to put us in the lead against Hartshorne.” 

Looking ahead, Madilyn sets high goals for the season: “I hope we make it further than last year; we have a really good chance of making it far.” 

Madilyn looks forward to facing Eufaula, recognizing them as strong competition: “They are good competition for us.” 

Beyond high school, Madilyn envisions attending college to further her basketball career. Additionally, she plans to study to become an X-ray technician or a physical therapist, emphasizing her commitment to both academics and athletics.
