HEAVENER WOLVES

BOYS

Coach: Jody Clubb

22-23 Record: 18-7

The Heavener Wolves will have a different style this year as the lack of anyone over 6-2 means quickness will need to be a team asset this year according to coach Jody Clubb. “We should be solid this year. We lost a lot of size from last year, but we will be guard heavy and quicker.” The Wolves also have the advantage of returning a lot of seniors who can help them possibly advance beyond the regionals this year. The leading returning scorer for the Wolves is Bryce Morrison (6-1, Sr.) who averaged 8.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last year. “Bryce is our senior guard who can score, rebound, play defense and is an excellent shooter,” said Clubb. Besides Morrison, there are a handful of returners who played in a least 10 games last year including Devry Riter (6-2, Sr.), Camden Broyles (6-2, Sr.), Isaac Cook (5-10, Jr.), Canyon Ford (5-9, Jr.) and Jackson Clubb (6-1, Sr.). “Jackson is the best defender and the hardest worker on the team, and he can score if he needs to.

He’s really a team first kind of player,” said dad/coach Jody. P.J Riddley (5-9) is another senior who will look to make big contributions this year. Heavner also has a strong junior class led by Cook and Ford that also includes guys that will look to become starters or at least valuable bench players in Ziad Rodriguez (5-10), Fernando Villanueva (5-10), Jace Collins (5-10), Hagan Ritter (5-11) and Rogelio Garcia (5-8). Rounding out the roster are a pair of sophomores, Spencer Clubb (5-8) and Brandon Sanchez (5-9). “Brandon is a true point guard who can handle the ball and distribute it. He’s an outstanding defender and can attack the rim on offense,” said coach Clubb. It will be a challenging year for the Wolves without a true big man to take care of the middle so think of these guys as a bunch of pesty gnats that will dart around and try to pester the opposition to death with their quickness.
