LOGAN ROBERTS
PORTER HIGH SCHOOL
Senior Logan Roberts has had a pretty standard sports upbringing taking part in baseball, football and basketball over the years. But it may be a lesser-known activity that could pave his way to college as we’ll discuss later.
“I grew up in Poteau and started playing baseball first at around age three. I played that exclusively until I was 12 or 13 and we moved to Porter. I got burned out on baseball, so I started focusing on football. They didn’t have little league football in Porter at the time, so I played for a year in Haskell and then for a year in Coweta before I got to middle school,” said Roberts who also throws the discus in track for the Pirates and fills in as needed in running events. “But in middle school I focused more on basketball, and he even played AAU ball for a couple of seasons. But when I got to high school most of the focus turned to football though I still play basketball and run track.”
Roberts played several different positions in football throughout high school but found a home at outside linebacker which he says he has enjoyed the most. Over the years Logan says his mom has been the main motivating force in his life,
“My mom always has something uplifting to say whether I’ve had a good game or a bad one though sometimes I’m not sure shealways knows what she’s talking about,” Roberts laughed.
But in addition to all of his organized sports, Logan is also on the skeet shooting team at Porter.
“We usually have a couple of meets a season and then regionals and I think we have a good chance to get to state this year. I’ve gotten pretty good at it and our coach thinks he can get me a scholarship to shoot skeet at Connors State next year,” said Roberts who is also in the National Honor Society.
Logan says he’s a pretty quiet guy and as a senior, leads mostly by example. When he leaves Porter, he says he would like to be remembered as being very responsible and hard-working.
