Although she admits that basketball is somewhat of an escape for her, Eufaula senior Kambry Williams is also quick to tell you how much she enjoys playing.

“I grew up playing softball including travel ball, but I’ve really grown fond of basketball the past couple of years,” said Kambri who is a three-year starter for the Ironheads. “The crowd and the atmosphere are just totally different in basketball than softball and the pace is something I really enjoy.”

And Eufaula coach Nick Yarbrough is glad that she enjoys the game.

“Kambry is an integral part of our team. She’s always been a good perimeter shooter but in the last couple of years she’s also gotten a lot better at putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the rim while her three -point shooting percentage has improved every year as well as her defensive play.”

Williams is one of four seniors for the Ironheads this year and since they didn’t have any seniors last year, Kambry had to step into a leadership role early and has done well.

“She’s really helped the incoming freshmen get integrated into the team each year,” said Yarbrough. “She’s always got a smile on her face and is good at lifting people up if they need an encouraging word. She’s always got a smile on her face, and she sets a great example for the younger players with her work ethic.”

Kambry has a few goals she would like to achieve in her final basketball season including averaging 15 points a game, sinking at least three 3-pointers a game and making All State. She has several people who have influenced her along the way, starting with her parents.

“They’ve always pushed me to do my best and they know my potential and have always gotten me around for all my sports. They’re my superheroes for sure. I also looked up to Journi James when she played here. She always had a great attitude and the way she played inspired me and she’s still a close friend today.”

There’s also another figure she’s pretty close to-her twin sister Avery.

“She and I do everything together. We both play basketball. In fast pitch softball she’s the pitcher and I’m the catcher and we both play middle infield in slow pitch. There’s always been some sibling rivalry but mostly we just cheer each other on,” said Kambry who is also in FCA and the National Honor Society.

The two will continue to work together in the future as both have committed to play softball at Connors State next year. 

When she leaves Eufaula, Kambry says she would like to be remembered as a person who was always there for the underclassmen and that was a good role model for them.
