Calloway Warren: A Tri-Sport Titan with a Heart of Gold

By Payton Moody

Calloway Warren, a senior at Poteau High School, is not just your average student-athlete—he’s a force to be reckoned with on the football field, basketball court and baseball diamond.

For Calloway, the thrill of being the underdog serves as a powerful motivator in his athletic pursuits. “Proving people wrong,” he asserted, encapsulating his drive to overcome obstacles and exceed expectations.

Among his biggest influences stands his Papaw Wayne Warren, whose unwavering work ethic and commitment to his beliefs inspire Calloway to strive for greatness both on and off the field.

In the classroom, Mrs. Susan Manlove played a pivotal role in shaping Calloway’s work ethic, instilling in him the value of hard work and dedication—a lesson that extends far beyond the confines of the classroom.

One of the defining moments in Calloway’s baseball career came during a memorable three-home-run game against Panama—a nod to his skill, determination and sheer talent on the field.

When it comes to rivals, Calloway sets his sights on anyone in their district, particularly Sallisaw— his competitive spirit and desire to dominate the competition shining through.

In the realm of teamwork, Calloway finds a kindred spirit in his teammate, Dax Collins. “We are both super competitive and hate losing. We always have to one-up each other,” Calloway mentioned.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the game, Holden Mattox stands out as a player whose contributions often go unnoticed. “Holden Mattox catches every inning of every game and never complains about it,” Calloway acknowledged, recognizing the selflessness and dedication of his teammate.

Beyond athletics, Calloway is actively involved in various campus activities, including FCA, student council and National Honor Society, showcasing his commitment to leadership and service both on and off the field.

Looking towards the future, Calloway plans to attend Northeastern State University, where he aims to pursue a bachelor’s degree in occupational and environmental safety.

Above all, Calloway aspires to be a role model for future generations—a beacon of inspiration for young athletes looking to follow in his footsteps. “I want to be someone that little kids look up to.”

In Calloway Warren, Poteau High School has found not just a standout athlete, but a compassionate leader and role model—an individual whose dedication, drive and heart of gold shine both on and off the field.
