TYSON FOURKILLER
Stilwell
Without a doubt, the game of baseball is enriched in the blood that flows through the veins of Tyson Fourkiller. And,due to a lifelong influence of family and friends, there’s a positive DNA that includes a tradition connected to Northeastern State University.
“For as long as I can remember, someone in my family has played baseball,” said the everyday second baseman for the RiverHawks this spring. “My dad (Brandon) and my older brother (Tyler) both played baseball at NSU. The opportunity for me to play here and stay close to my family plus hunt and fish, it’s a no-brainer for sure.”
A 2019 graduate from Stilwell, Fourkiller circled the bases playing college baseball at Connors State College followed by an academic year at the University of Arkansas. After a second stint at Connors, Fourkiller followed the advice of a former teammate with the Cowboys when deciding to put on the RiverHawks uniform.
“Growing up, I’d heard about NSU from my dad and brother. And when I talked with DeClaudio Irvin who played with me a Connors(State College), I was sure this would me the place for me to find my way home,” confirmed Fourkiller. “There’s a definite brotherhood, a family spirit between my teammates, my instructors and all over town of people going out of their way to help each other.”
The long hours of practice as well as road trip travels that sometimes include three to four days away from campus create challenges to meet the demands of the college classroom. Yet Fourkiller finds a winning game plan revolving around the open-door relationships with his professors.
“At NSU, the professors are eager to get to know their students. They’re willing to go beyond normal office hours,” Fourkiller said with appreciation in his quest to complete his degree in criminal justice. “The email communications, zoom calls and videos with instructions keeps everyone playing on the same team.”
