Checotah’s Aiyana Brewer Athlete Spotlight Presented by CROSS

Checotah High School’s Aiyana Brewer stands tall at 6’0 and dominates the court as a power forward. Not only is she a standout athlete, but she also excels academically, maintaining a remarkable 4.0 GPA. Aiyana’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the basketball court, as she is also an active member of the cross country and track teams for her school. In addition to her athletic pursuits, she takes concurrent classes at Connors State College while juggling various leadership roles within her school, such as being the president of the junior class and a member of the National Honor Society.

“I started playing basketball when I was seven years old. I spend my summers traveling and playing basketball with my AAU team,” Aiyana shared, reflecting on her early beginnings in the sport. Her passion for the game was sparked when her mother enrolled her in a school league, setting her on a path of athletic achievement and personal growth.

Balancing the demanding schedules of academics and athletics requires skill and discipline, and Aiyana credits her mother for imparting valuable lessons in time management. “My schedule can be extensive at times between my schoolwork and games or practices, but my mom has really taught me how to balance and prioritize the important things in my life.”

Aiyana’s athletic achievements speak volumes about her dedication and talent. “It has been an honor to be selected for the NOAA All-Conference team as both a freshman and a sophomore. Also being a three-year starter for Checotah is something that I consider an achievement.”

Her involvement in team sports has not only honed her athletic skills but has also contributed to her personal growth. “I feel being a part of a team has helped me build leadership skills that will be beneficial in my adult life. It also helps me push through any adversity, because we all want to win for each other,” Aiyana shared.

Aiyana recognizes the pivotal role her coaches have played in her development as an athlete. “Honestly, every coach I have had has taught me something beneficial about the game or just life in general,” she acknowledged. She highlighted the influence of assistant coach Megan Duvall, who made a significant impact on her confidence, and coach Wesley Cloud, who continues to guide and inspire her.
