Senior Jacob Jones at Checotah High School has made a lasting impact on the athletic programs, especially in baseball and football. Leading his sports as the quarterback, pitcher and center fielder, Jacob’s journey is a tribute to leadership both on and off the field as he considers his time in high school.
For Jacob, the love of the game is a powerful motivator. “Honestly, the biggest motivation for me is the love of the game,” he said. “Beyond that, I’m motivated by the desire to improve. Plus, there’s the support from my family, friends and coaches. Their belief in me and their encouragement make a huge difference in how I play and train.”
When it comes to role models, Jacob looks up to a diverse group. “First and foremost, my mom and dad have always been huge role models for me,” he shared. “Then there’s God. My faith plays a big part in my life, not just in baseball but in everything I do.” Jacob also finds inspiration in sports legends like Derek Jeter and Mike Trout, admiring their leadership, work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Balancing football and baseball has been a rewarding yet challenging journey for Jacob. “Physically, it’s about staying in peak condition year-round,” he explained. “Mentally, the challenge is in switching gears from the strategic mindset of a quarterback, where every play is a complex decision involving many moving parts, to the focused, individual battles within a baseball game—whether that’s on the mound, at bat, or making plays in the field.”
One of the highlights of Jacob’s career came in a memorable game against Eufaula, where his team secured a historic victory. “That game wasn’t just another win; it was history in the making,” he recalled with pride. “We took the lead in the all-time record, standing at 54-53-1.”
Looking ahead, Jacob plans to continue his football career at Northwestern Oklahoma State while pursuing his education. His dedication to representing his school and community shines through in his words: “Wearing our school colors and hearing our fans cheer us on is a constant reminder of the larger community we’re part of and striving to uplift. It’s a source of motivation and pride, and it drives me to give my best in every game.”
