EUFAULA IRONHEADS
Coach: LARRY NEWTON, JR.
10-2
OFFENSE
The Eufaula Ironheads will return seven starters on offense this year. However, a big question mark for veteran coach Larry Newton Jr. will be replacing three-year starter Luke Adcock at quarterback. “We’ve got more starters back this year than last which is a plus but replacing Luke will be the biggest question mark as to the style of offense we run,” said Newton. Whoever ends up under center, he’ll have a solid line to protect him with the return of VYPE Top 100 nominees Draven Gragg (6-4, 280, Sr.) and Carson Luna (6-2, 250, Jr.) along with Connor McAllister (6-3, 275, Jr.). With a new quarterback, a lot will fall on the shoulders of running back Peter Lee (5-11, 185, So.) who rushed for 686 yards and 10 touchdowns last year and Kaden Rice (6-1, 200, Jr.), another VYPE Top 100 nominee, who had eight touchdowns last year and 667 yards receiving. “Kaden ended up being our best receiver and outside linebacker last year and we’ll really need him to step up his blocking this year with a new quarterback. He may also see time at tight end,” said Newton. Joining Rice at a receiver spot will be Dresden Chiles (5-11, 175, Jr.). The kicking game will again be in the capable hands of junior Bryan Lynn who Newton calls the hardest worker on the team.
DEFENSE
“Our defense will have to set the tone early for us,” said Newton. “We need those guys to control the opposition offense and give us good field position as our offense gets on its feet.”
There are eight returning starters on this side of the ball led by Gragg who had 99 tackles.
“Draven has gotten several college offers and is a huge reason we were so successful defensively last season. He really stepped in at inside linebacker when we didn’t have a returner there,” said Newton. Chiles will be the lone returner for the Ironheads in the secondary while Luna and Rashon Watts (6-0, 300, Sr.) will be in charge in the D-line. Rice will be stopper at linebacker where he had 86 tackles and four sacks last year and he’ll be joined by sophomore Brendin Delaney (6-0, 190).
