Eufaula Ironheads 2023 Softball Team Preview – Presented by Bank of Eufaula

EUFAULA IRONHEADS

Coach: Ryan Green

Paced by the contributions of three seniors who have started every game since their freshman season surrounded by all but one starter from last season, the Lady Ironheads enter the 2023 season with an expectation for continued success.

The ace in the circle Avery Williams (P/SS, Sr.) begins her fourth year with proven abilities and confidence. Last year, the crafty pitcher used a variety of throws and posted an impressive 1.51 ERA chalking up 199 strikeouts to record a 22-11 record. Equally a threat with the bat, Williams hit for a .373 average and used her softball IQ to put pressure on the opponents defense as a base runner.

“Avery has been our staple of effort in the circle the last three seasons,” said head coach Ryan Green. “Mixing her pitches effective she keeps batters off balance while as lefty at the plate finds the gap to get on base with regularity.”

Williams’ battery mate Kambry Williams (C, Sr.) returns as to anchor the middle defense at catcher and gives Eufaula a threat at the dish where she posted a .340 batting average a year ago. The Ironheads welcome the no-fear efforts of Gabby Noriega (3B, Sr.) on the hot-corner at third base spot while with the bat she averaged .464 in 2022. The offensive firepower revolves around the contributions of Kate Pippenger (SS/OF, Jr.) who totaled 36 RBI and 27 extra base hits to average .562 at the plate last season on top of a consistent defensive glove in the middle defense joined by Rayleigh Peterson (2B/UTL, So.) at second base who finds a way to reach base posting a .368 average as a freshman a year ago. The combined efforts in the outfield of Kadie Jo Tidwell (OF/1B/C, Jr.) who consistently displayed her rifle arm to check opposing runners joins forces with Shyanne Madewell (OF/UTL, So.) to secure the defense while both swing the bat with results posting plus .350 averages in 2022. Depth will give coach Green options in the lineup including Allie Anderson (OF, Sr.), Maddie Ballard (OF/1B, Jr.), Makayla Harjo (OF, So) along with an eager and energetic foursome of freshmen including Abby Box, Briley Gragg, Hannah Beaver and Burkleigh Lange.
