BREYLYNN MACOMB
FORT GIBSON HIGH SCHOOL
Breylynn Macomb is what you might call a late bloomer. The junior is a multi-sport athlete at Fort Gibson High School but didn’t really get seriously into athletics until middle school.
“In track I run the 100-meter sprint, the 4X100 relay and sometimes the 200-meter sprint and I won state in the 100 and 4X100 relay in eighth grade. I got into track because some of my friends were in it and I found I was pretty fast, so I stuck with it, but I didn’t get into football and wrestling until I got to high school,” said Breylynn who is also part of the Native American Student Association and FCA. “I’m an OU football fan and as far as track I guess (Olympian) Usain Bolt has always been kind of a role model for me.”
In football, Macomb plays running back and outside linebacker and he wrestles at 150 pounds and although he likes all three sports, he probably has felt closer to football in recent years.
“When I first started track in middle school, I was really into it but now it’s become more of an obligation to better myself for football which I think I like a little more because of the team aspect and the bonding instead of having to kind of be on your own like you are in track and wrestling.”
And it was in football where he made one of his first high school memories.
“I think when I scored my first Fort Gibson touchdown playing JV my freshman year and heard all the crowd cheering, it was something I’ll always remember,” said Macomb.
He says there were a lot of good senior role models in terms of leadership on this year’s football team and knows what he’ll need to do next year when he steps into that senior leadership spot.
“I think part of being a good leader is being able to motivate the guys and keep morale up no matter what the game situation is.”
Breylynn qualified for the state track meet his freshman year but after missing out last year he says his goal this year is to get back to the state championships in the 100-meter sprint and the 4X100 relay.
