Haskell’s Lynzi Kelly – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Kilgore Meat Processing

Haskell High School senior Lynzi Kelly plays a vital role on the girls’ basketball team as a point guard. The position is arguably the most difficult of the five positions to play on the court.

Kelly is tasked with the responsibility of getting her team into its offense and assuring that all of the players are aware of their roles. Most importantly, she assists with creating scoring opportunities for both the players around her and herself.

She is a veteran of the game, having played basketball since the fourth grade – nine years thus far.

When asked what her favorite part about basketball is, Kelly proclaimed, “My favorite part about basketball is being able to show my leadership on the court and interact with my teammates.”

High school sports are loaded with memory-creating moments. When it comes to a favorite memory while playing basketball, Kelly recalled, “A couple of years ago, I hit a game-winning 3-pointer, and it was my favorite memory of my basketball career.”

In regards to who has inspired Kelly the most, she looks up to a coach.

“My former basketball coach, Rodney Luellen, has inspired me the most in my basketball career,” she said.

In terms of an athlete that Kelly looks up to, she stated that, “I look up to Angel Reese from LSU as an athlete that has inspired me. I am inspired by her because she goes about her business just like me in game situations.”

For academics, there’s one subject that she likes the most.

“My favorite academic subject is English, because I enjoy writing,” Kelly said.

Kelly plans on pursuing higher education after high school.

“After high school, I plan on attending college at Connors State to further my softball career and get a degree in Physical Therapy,” she said.

Outside of the basketball court, there are other activities that Kelly enjoys.

“Besides basketball, I enjoy playing competitive softball, high school softball, spending time with my family, and working out,” she said.
