HILLDALE HORNETS
BOYS
Coach: Gary Hendrix
22-23 Record: 12-15
The Hornets return a pair of starters from last year’s squad that played competitively but just never quite got over the hump, Of their 15 losses, seven of them were by seven points or less so winning those close games is something that Hall of Fame coach Gary Hendrix, beginning his 37th year of head coaching, will try to instill in his team this year.
The team centers around junior Cole Leach, a VYPE Top 100 selection, who averaged 11 points and 6.6 rebounds a game last season for the Hornets. The other returning starter is Rance Reynolds (6-0, Sr.) who plays guard and averaged just over two points a game in 2022. Hendrix thinks other probable starters at least to start the season will be Mason Forhan (6-0, Jr.) who averaged five points a game in his playing time last year, Ty Wilson (6-1, Jr.) and Cole Marshall (6-2, Jr.). Senior Isaiah Goodnight (6-0) could be a player to give a break to the guys in the forecourt. Other juniors that will be counted on by the Hornets are Kaden McLemore (5-11) and Parker Roc (5-10). Because there’s not a lot of experience on the team outside the two returning starters, it opens the door for some of the sophomores to possibly breakthrough and some of the guys in that group include Jordan Rodriguez (5-10), Brady Scott (5-9), Grayson Hall (6-5) and Dawson Fields who suffered a broken arm during football and will be out of action probably until second semester. “We will be young and inexperienced but competitive and we hope to be pretty good by playoff time,” said Hendrix.
