Muskogee Girls Basketball 2023 Preview Presented by York Street Tire

GIRLS

Coach: Bryan Bunch

22-23 Record: 7-16

Believe It’s Coming…the words are more than just a team motto but also a driving force in the efforts of the Roughers who must reaffirm its leadership and scoring with only one senior returning as head coach Bryan Bunch begins his second season at the helm. “We will be young and inexperienced to start out the season, still yet it’s a group of girls that are willing to do the little things to grow together,” said Bunch. “We will compete on both ends of the floor and play with compassion for one another.” The early season success of this year’s squad will depend upon the Roughers trio of returning starters including VYPE Top 100 nominee Malaysia Burton (5-8, Jr.) reuniting efforts with Aniyah Thomas (5-10, Jr.) and Jaslyn Gandy (5-4, Jr.). “Malaysia is a three-year starter who matches her athleticism and high basketball IQ,” explained Bunch.

“She is our floor general, who leads the team not only vocally but also by example.” And in the words of the Muskogee coach, Thomas is the definition of determination and commitment to succeed. While looking at his team going through drills inside Rougher Village, Bunch pointed out NyAsia Ivy (5-6, So.) as one of the younger players expected to make an impact.  “NyAsia is a sophomore who will play a major role this season this year, Bunch said. “She is a streaky perimeter shooter, who is also dedicated on the defensive end.” Bunch was eager to point out his enthusiasm for other players on the roster for the commitment to the effort to find success on both ends of the court. “Jordan Campbell (5-10, Jr.) is the heartbeat of this team exampled through her consistent effort and energy,” said Bunch. “D’myaBrown (5-3, Jr.) owns her efforts and by example of respect and integrity, uplifts our team to a higher standard of performance.” Others competing for the cause of the Roughers will be Jayda Wordlow (5-10, Jr.), Emerson Toney (5-3, Jr.), Terrah Williams (5-6, Jr.), Shyanne Hooper (5-7, Fr.), Trinity Williams (5-7, Sr.), Mekiah Cherry (6-1, Sr.), EleeshaLee (5-10, So.) and Nya Gurton (6-0, So.).
