Muskogee’s Gabbi Davis – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Broadway Manor

Written by Byron Beers

Gabbi Davis is getting a starting role on Muskogee’s slowpitch softball team as a freshman, and she’s already making an impact.

Davis had a two-run homer in the Roughers’ 14-6 win over Bixby on April 4 and has been a mainstay in the middle of the lineup.

“Gabbi is a newcomer to Muskogee softball, but we are excited to see what she brings this spring season,” Muskogee head coach Mark Dicus said. “She is a go-getter and a hard worker! Her softball knowledge as a freshman is far beyond her years, as well as her playing. We are very excited to see what she does for our team and the future of Muskogee softball.”

The Roughers have won 12 of their first 19 games to start the 2023 season and were ranked 12th in Class 6A through April 10.

“We’re going to win games and do great things,” Davis said. “My strength is being able to move all around the field where I’m needed. I’ve improved the most on my hitting, thanks to my teammates and coaches.”

The home run against Bixby came with Muskogee trailing by three runs. It’s a memory Davis will never forget.

“I got up to the plate and hit the home run to start a rally, and that helped us win the game,” she said.

Davis knows she can count on her teammates when times get tough.

“My teammates are there to cheer me on when I’m up or when I’m down,” she said. “They help me through all my troubles at the plate or when I mess up on the field. The idea of them backing me up…it’s just a great feeling. That is why I love being a student-athlete at Muskogee High School.”

During her free time, Davis enjoys riding horses and helping her nana and papa out.

“I spend as much family time as I can, but if it’s not family time, it’s usually me out cheering on my brothers at their games,” she said.
