WESLEY HARVEY AND TEYON BREWER MUSKOGEE HIGH SCHOOL

You might call them the Gentle Giants of Muskogee Rougher football. Wesley Harvey (6-8, 280) and Teyon Brewer (6-3, 275) stand head and shoulders above many of their opponents-especially Harvey. “Yep, I was always the tallest one sticking out in class pictures,” laughed the big offensive lineman. Both are Muskogee natives who have grown up following the Roughers, both are VYPE TOP 100 picks, and both are members of an offensive line that was a question mark at the start of the last season but helped lead Muskogee to the Class 6A-II state semifinals. “This year our offensive line should be much better. We’re all back and we’re bigger and stronger and now have at least a full year if not more of starting experience. We’ll also have some depth with guys like O’Shea Stevenson who was a spot starter last year and Hunter Lanier coming along,” said Brewer who will also play nose guard on the defensive side of the ball this year. “I prefer playing defense because there’s a lot less you have to memorize. Your only job is to find a way to get to the running back or quarterback. I’ll bull rush a lineman if I can but otherwise, I’ll try to use my speed to get around them.” When these two step up to the line of scrimmage, it’s all

business. “If I line up and the guy across from me is giving me some trash talk, it just gets my adrenalin going and I just say to myself ‘you’ve got to put him on his butt now,” said Harvey. “When I line up on defense one of my first thoughts is to not get pancaked or pushed back because I don’t want to get embarrassed in front of anyone,” said Brewer. Both of these big guys are seniors and are thinking about college football. Wesley had offers from several D-I schools including Houston, Tulsa, New Mexico State, and UNLV among others before recently deciding to commit to TCU. Brewer is eyeing offers from Northwestern State, Langston, Louisiana Tech, and Eastern Illinois at the moment with more certain to come this season. Teyon describes himself as a hard-working gentleman patterned after his dad Earnest but is also the team goofball while Wesley says he is tough, well-minded and persistent. The 2023 season will be a big one for the Roughers but even more so for the seniors like Harvey and Brewer who know this is the last hurrah for them and Brewer summed that up as he talked about what his legacy to Rougher football might be. “After I leave, I’d like to know that I did everything I could this senior season to bring the gold ball back to Muskogee.”
