Muskogee’s Zhyan Mayes inks with Bethel College – Presented by Tropical Smoothie Cafe

Muskogee senior basketball player Zhyan Mayes has made her college decision.

The 5-foot-6 guard, who averaged 9.9 points, 2.2 steals, 3.2 rebounds and two assists per game, has signed with Bethel College (Kansas).

The Lady Roughers went 6-16 overall under head coach Bryan Bunch in 2022-23.

“Zhyan Mayes is an energetic guard who brings life to our team,” Bunch said. “She not only uplifts and encourages her teammates, but she strives to play the game with her last breath.

“Zhyan is willing to embrace whatever role she needs to in order for our team to be successful. You can’t say enough about a student athlete who is more about the team than themselves.”

Bethel College, a member of the NAIA and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, posted a 7-20 record last season under head coach Derrick Pringle, Jr.
