PAWPA NAMED CONFERENCE COACH OF THE YEAR-sponsored by Advanced Family Eye Care

Girls’ basketball coach Randi Pawpa was recently named the Verdigris Valley Coach of the Year as she led the Lady Bulldogs to a 23-6 record this past season and just one game short of making it to the state tournament.

“It was kind of a surprise. There were three of us that tied for the honor, and I just happened to get it. It’s a good thing for Wagoner basketball” said Pawpa who announced earlier she was stepping away from the high school coaching job but will remain at Wagoner.

In her six years as the high school coach, the program enjoyed a lot of success and Pawpa reflected on that.

“When I took over, the team wasn’t very good. There were good athletes, but they were short on basketball skills, so I guess my biggest highlight was being able to turn around the wins and seeing the kids have success the past few years.”

Pawpa says part of her decision to step away from high school coaching was the desire to watch her daughter Cambri who has been a big part of the Bulldog program, continue her basketball career at Oklahoma Christian University.
