Porter Pirates Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Kilgore Meat Processing Plant

GIRLS
Coach: Scott Hensley

21-22 Record: 19-5

The Lady Pirates have some big shoes to fill due to graduation as Scott Hensley steps to the lead chair as head coach. “We’re starting from scratch with a lot of new players but we’re going to do what it takes to form a winning culture,” said Hensley who moves to Porter after coaching boys and girls basketball at Hilldale. Developing depth will be a focal point for Hensley. Among the remaining players with proven experience is Raylee Allison (5-8, Sr.) who totaled 12.3 points per game while grabbing 3.0 rebounds last season will join forces with guards Kelsi Kilgore (5-5, Jr.) and Lauren Lindell (5-4, Jr.) who also have game time experience.

“Raylee is an experienced starter that knows how to score,” Hensley said pointing to the statistical charts. “Kelsi adds agility to the perimeter and the intensity and competitive spirit of Lauren is contagious among her teammates.” Hensley anticipates that Aiya Smith (5-5 Sr.), Israel Houston (5-7, Jr.), Alanna Gonzalez (5-4, Jr.), Kassidy Pickard (5-4, So.), Makaela Hitchye (5-8, So.), Estrella Vega (5-3, So.) and incoming freshman Abby Gourd (5-7, Fr.) to become contributors to the success on the court this season. “Abby makes the right decision with the ball in her hands and Izzy’s (Houston) positive voice is beneficial to our team’s growth,” said Hensley. “Makaela will be key in our ability to battle for rebounds on both ends of the floor.”
