Porum Panthers Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Cross

Coach: Joe Hays

21-22 Record: 7-10

First year head coach of the Porum Panthers Joe Hays is ready to see his team hit the hardwood this season. “We are a fairly young team that has shown growth through the summer and offseason,” Hays said. “I see potential in our team’s ability to be disciplined and smart on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball. This year we look to take a step forward in a tradition rich and competitive conference.”

Michael Wright (6-0, Jr.) is a VYPE Top 100 nominee with great slashing ability from the two and three spots out on the wing. He is a tenacious rebounder with good instincts and athleticism. Wright has a great work ethic and if he continues to improve has a chance to continue his playing career at the next level.

Cooper Franklin (6-2, So.) has great size as a sophomore and knows how to use his size and strength to his advantage. Franklin is already a team leader and puts his teammates in the best position to succeed both on and off the court. “That trust helps him to build great relationships across the team,” Hays said. “Those relationships combined with Michael’s skills and performance creates a strong bond for our team.”

Isaiah Sallee (So.) has tremendous upside as a sophomore guard. He has the ability to catch and shoot at a high percentage and has been working on his ability to shoot off the dribble. Sallee has good handles and sees the floor well. He has innate scoring capabilities and has been working hard to improve his defensive fundamentals. He is one to keep an eye on over the next several years.

Rylind Tillery (5-11, Jr.) is a versatile player that can fill many roles on both offense and defense and is willing to do whatever is required to make the team better.

Other players to look for include: Kyle Rock (6-1, Sr.), Rowdy Harris (5-10, Jr.), Augustine Tallon (5-10, Jr.), Waylon Dishman (5-10, So.), Bo Chapman (5-10, So.), Hector Tallon (5-11, So.), Gage Scarberry (5-9, So.), Zec Ayers (6-1, Fr.), Luke Johnson (5-11, Fr.), Diesel Purdom (5-9, Fr.), and Jaxon Cravens (5-6, Fr.).
